New gameplay format


There's been a lot of rapid changes in recent weeks. After the new major update, lots of features have been revamped.

Today I'll be trying some major changes to the current main game mode.

Previously, the enemy would spawn around the player, Vampire Survivor style. Players just need to survive the enemies until the end of the stage. There is also a system called Overtime. A timer will countdown, and the faster the player clears all enemies within this period, the more bonus rewards they can get. Otherwise, if the player can't clear all enemies within the overtime limit, they won't receive any bonus reward.

This design seems to provide some issues since the player can't get enough bonus rewards from overtime. Likely, they won't have enough resources to build their team and win against the final boss or later stages.

To prevent that case, the combat phase has been completely overhauled.

First off, to set the game identity straight. Some player feels the game resembles Vampire Survivor but doesn't execute very well. This game does take inspiration from various games, Vampire Survivor included.

Personally, I want this to be more similar to SNKRX kind of game than VS. Thus, I complete the spawn system from enemy horde into more hand-pick groups of enemies similar to SNKRX. With this, I can give each stage more identities and provide the enemy fleet more interesting combination of enemy types. Also with this design, other formations will have more incentive to be utilized by matching up against enemy formations. Since previously in a horde of enemies, circle formation seem to be the best choice all the time.

And finally, instead of surviving until the end stage and clearing the overtime. Each stage will have multiple encounters, and the player just needs to clear all enemies each encounter to clear the stage. No need to worry about overtime and stuff, Resources are also redistributed elsewhere so that players will likely have enough resources regardless of their performance in the combat phase, as long as they can complete the stage.

TLDR:

  • Change enemy spawn from a horde of enemies similar to Vampire Survivor into hand pick group of enemies like in SNKRX.
  • Remove the Overtime mechanic, just simply clear all enemies to complete the stage.
  •  Resources are redistributed since overtime is removed, resulting in more plentiful resources.
